The Whiteville
Downtown Development Commission is made up
of a membership of merchants & business
people who are located in the heart of
downtown.
Not only do we have a huge shopping area,
the Whiteville City Schools Administration
offices are located downtown, along with the
Greater Whiteville Chamber of Commerce,
Employment Security Office, Whiteville City
Hall, Southeastern Community College classes
are held downtown, Waccamaw Bank's Training
and Operations Center and their Bankshares
headquarters, an d the Columbus County Arts
Council. Also, near City Hall is the
N.C. Forestry Museum and the offices of The News Reporter and
regional headquarters for B.B. & T. And of course the focal
point of the downtown area is the Vineland
Station Depot, a historical landmark
recently remodeled and restored to a
beautiful facility now used as a community
events center!
W.D.D.C.
was created to help stimulate the
economic
development
and growth of the downtown area and today
takes pride in helping to stage events that
encourage visitors to "Come Home to Downtown
Whiteville!" Our 25 member board of
directors with an on-site local director
meets monthly to discuss promotion,
development and recruitment in the downtown
area. The N.C. Pecan Harvest Festival
held the first weekend in November annually
attracts 10-12,000 people to the downtown
area. Over 125 merchants,
corporations and individuals are members of W.D.D.C. and the list is growing!
