Our Company
 Kenny Barnes and Monteith Powell have been in
the pawn business for a combined thirty-plus years. Kenny opened
a store in Chadbourn in October of 1989, City Pawn and Guns. Monteith bought a store in Elizabethtown, City Pawn of
Elizabethtown, in October of 1994 after having worked in the
pawn business in Chadbourn for two years. While consulting with
each other on ideas and trends, they operated independently for
several years.
In late 2001 they combined their efforts and formed a new
corporation, Pawn South, Inc. Pawn South opened its first store
in Lumberton in January of 2002. By July of 2003 Pawn South had
expanded into South Carolina with a store in Conway. March of
2006 saw the opening of the fifth store, in Whiteville, NC. Also
in 2006 the company dropped the use of the “City Pawn” name so
that all stores operate as Pawn South, Inc. Currently, Pawn
South has seven locations in North and South Carolina
