The town of
Fair Bluff incorporated in 1873, having endured the exportation of
its textile industry to other countries and its rail traffic to
the interstates, is attempting to revitalize itself through local
effort and Federal assistance. Currently, with the help of an
energetic town council and mayor, Fair Bluff has installed street
lighting and new sidewalks with the view toward making Fair Bluff
a theme town of the 30's and 40's. Merchants in the downtown area
are encouraged to redo their store fronts and display areas in
keeping with this theme with a view toward attracting the touring
public and encouraging other unique businesses to find a home in
Fair Bluff. |

Additionally, a
concerted effort is being made to focus on the Lumber River that
flows parallel to and one block off Main street for a distance of
approximately 300 yards. An elevated walkway along the river has
been built for the benefit and free enjoyment of the public.
Businesses on Main Street are developing attractive back entrances
making the walkway and river available to all customers from main
street or from back entrances. A Recreational Vehicle Park on the banks of part of the
river has also been considered to attract the touring public.
One additional
thought - Our close proximity to North Myrtle Beach (38 miles)
lends itself to the possibility of a bedroom community for this
area. |
